About PNG

THE MISSION WIRELESS INTERCOM

The PNG system is a mission capable wireless ICS extension which enables crew to maintain full duplex communication when leaving the platform at line of sight range.

PNG can be retrofitted and configured to work with any existing ICS or helmet/headset combination and is designed to qualify for all relevant aerial, maritime and ground vehicle platforms, civilian and military. Wireless communications are enabled by a PNG base station connected to the platform’s ICS. A number of advanced features can be accessed by an on-board communication control device.

Industry leading non-interrupted VOX, noise- and echo cancelling technologies enables communications in the most severe noise environments. Secure communications are made available through Software or Hardware encryption according to customer requirements. PNG handheld transceivers include a GPS receiver allowing the position of the outside crew to be monitored on mission displays, transmission of positions in secure mode. 

PNG can be connected to platform installed radios, allowing users to access radios from a remote position and to communicate through platform installed radios, such as satcom, C2IS, or TETRA.  Intercom loops may be created in the wireless domain, allowing teams to interact or work independently when required, and team leaders to broadcast across teams.

Various handheld transceivers are available, both amphibious and non-amphibious. Different devices can be mixed within the same system and there is no limitation to number of units connected. Power settings are adaptable to suit user requirements for radio footprint and range.

Declaration of design and performance is available on request. Axnes will support qualifications according to customer requirements.

The Base Station

The BST50 PNG base station is the heart of the system and shall be installed in the platform, and connected to the platform wired ICS.

The base station supports multiple audio connections, both through analogue interfaces and digital audio interfaces. In addition to the ICS, the BST50 can be connected to platform installed radios, allowing users to access radios from a remote position and to communicate through platform installed radios, such as Satcom, C2IS, or TETRA.  Intercom loops may be created in the wireless domain, allowing teams to interact or work independently when required, and team leaders to broadcast across teams.

The PNG base station supports group definitions (optional). Several remote users are supported and groups of users can be defined and linked to respective loops on the platform ICS. As on the platform ICS, loops may be selectively addressed by the crew during the mission. The powerful MP50 DSP is able to mix several loops, so that a crew member is able to listen into several groups while selectively choosing to talk into single ICS loops. Several mission parameters can be stored to accommodate a multi mission platform.

The Control Panel

Axnes offers a dedicated control panel to operate the PNG base station

Axnes offers a dedicated control panel to operate the PNG base station. The control panel is designed in a DZUS mount (146mm) mechanical format using five height units. The control panel is connected to the base station via a dedicated CAN bus.

To simplify wiring in the platform, the base station provides power for the control panel, so no additional circuit breaker is required. The control panel incorporates a USB interface, which gives remote access to the base station for system setup, programming and firmware updates. The control panel is remote dimmable, and may be wired to the cockpit central dimming system.

A simple and intuitive human machine interface provides easy system operation such as mode changes for multirole platform, position reporting of outside crew and visual status reports on the system to the crew.

The Handheld Transceivers

Various handheld transceivers are available, both amphibious and non-amphibious. Different devices can be mixed within the same system and there is no limitation to number of units connected

AXNES PNG wireless intercom utilizes state-of-the art software-defined radio technology working in the UHF and VHF band. A flexible and short rubber antenna was specifically designed for the PNG Handhelds and results in an impressive wireless intercom with unmatched range. Due to its unique noise cancelling technology the PNG Handhelds can be used in extreme noise environments. To increase operational safety, the transceivers are equipped with a 46 channel GPS receiver. This allows fast and precise location of MP30 or MP50 equipped crewmembers. Positioning data is transmitted via a secure data channel to the aircraft or vehicle, and may be displayed on moving map or mission displays.

The MP30 PNG Tranciever is the most versatile transceiver of the PNG product family. MP30 was designed with demanding missions in mind. Targeted applications include airborne EMS, law enforcement, cargo- and special operations, armored vehicles and patrol boats.
The unit provides a rugged full metal housing that enables reliable operation in demanding environments, both inside the aircraft and outside – even in mud, heavy rain or snow.

The MP30 can by equipped with a Bluetooth® module and act as a noise cancelled headset for a tablet or mobile phone. The MP30 can be equipped with a variety of connectors to suit customer needs and avoid the need for adaptor cables.

The MP50 is the high-end transceiver of the PNG wireless intercom system. MP50 has HEMS, SAR, CSAR and special mission operations in mind. The ruggedized device is waterproof according to IP68 and is submersible down to 3m/9ft. The MP50 is smartly designed in a rugged full metal housing that enables reliable operation in demanding environments. AXNES PNG utilizes state-of-the-art software-defined radio technology working in the UHF band for intercom functions.

The MP50 is a dual band transceiver, incorporating also maritime VHF band to increase the communication ability of the outside crew to other resources. Using maritime VHF will add safety for outside crew during over water operations. As an option, the MP50 can be equipped with an integrated maritime AIS SART distress beacon. A crew member in an emergency may activate the AIS beacon and be located and supported by all aircraft and/ or vessels in his vicinity.
